history
Darley Butler has its origins in 1848 as a diversified organization founded on a partnership between two pioneering gentlemen in Ceylon: Edward J Darley, and Samuel Butler. A primary exporter of tea and local produce, and the island’s first recorded exporter of coffee, Darley Butler’s interests covered estate agencies, commission agents, imports/exports and ship chartering. The partnership was converted to a limited liability company in the year 1920. With the acquisition in 1967, the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of E B Creasy & Company Plc, which was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange.
